On language learning methods
I tend to follow an input-heavy approach as I learn new languages, which is reflected in the resources I've shared here. I don't follow any one specifically, but I tend to borrow concepts from each. Basically, if you spend enough time doing something, you get good at it. Who woulda thunk?
- the Dreaming Spanish method. The roadmap is very helpful for goal setting. I read a lot earlier than DS suggests, but that's because reading is something I like to do. The site has a lot of content for Spanish learners of all levels, though I've never used it myself.
- the Refold method. Another roadmap that's helpful for setting goals and figuring out what to do at each level. The most helpful take away for me was the notion of domains.
On reading in your target language
- For a fine vocabulary, read 137 books
- The Starbucks School of Language Acquisition
- Write ups on reading in one's target language. Pieces like these really inspired me before starting graduate school to get myself to read more of the literary canon and better my reading skills in general.
